I became a "doll person" as a young child. I started making my own play
dolls because my mother kept the special Christmas dolls on a shelf..
To be looked at all year and only touched when the next year's doll became her
replacement.

I believe dolls should be loved and touchable. They should give a
feeling of warmth which is why I prefer to work in cloth. My dolls were inspired by
the "Lenci" cloth dolls created by Signora Elena di Scavinin in the
1920's. These dolls appeal to me because they look like real children
and were exquisitely dressed.

I begin the construction of each doll with a sculpture of the face
in clay. After the head is made, the body is put together with a wire and
wood armature "skeleton" to insure realism in posing. Knit fabric and
cotton batting cover the armature . Parts of the body are soft sculpted.
Each doll is one of a kind. I can make a "similar" doll but no two are alike
I desire that collectors of my dolls appreciate the differing ethnic cultures represented.
Most are dolls of "color" but we are all children of one God. Each
is unique and special..all different races and colors.

May your "Just like me" doll bring you feeling of love, warmth
